FAA repair approval expands Fairchild Controls’ maintenance capabilities into high-power electronics

Frederick, Maryland, March 11, 2008

Fairchild Controls has received U.S. Federal Aviation Administration aftermarket repair authorization for its A380 Supplemental Cooling System Controller, which manages the distributed chilling equipment for food service galleys on Airbus’ new 525-seat jetliner.

This addition to Fairchild Controls’ FAA Repair Station capabilities authorizes the company’s maintenance of the complex system, which controls refrigeration units, pumps, compressors and fans for galleys located throughout the A380’s upper and lower passenger decks.

Fairchild Controls’ FAA-certified Repair Station is now authorized for the maintenance of its Supplemental Cooling System Controller, which equips the 525-seat Airbus A380 jetliner.

“The latest FAA approval expands our commercial aviation maintenance capability to controllers with embedded microprocessors and motor drivers using high-power electronics,” said Fairchild Controls’ President Scott Selle. “Previously, our FAA repair authorization covered mechanical components and single card analog controllers, so this new authorization is a significant step forward in our repair and overhaul credentials.”

Each A380 aircraft carries two redundant Supplemental Cooling Systems, which are located under the aircraft’s centerline fuselage in the belly fairing compartment.

The headquarters facility of Fairchild Controls, which includes the FAA Certificated Repair Station SW3R856L, is located in Frederick, Maryland.
